This staff paper sets out the “McKinsey method” of problem solving, a structured, inductive approach that consists of four fundamental disciplines: problem definition, the problem-solving process itself, a number of “distinctiveness practices” our strongest problem solvers apply to deliver superior results to clients, and collaboration, which improves the results of our work and should lead to stronger client ownership of those results.
